Have a Happy Summer Pearlies

Hello everyone,

The children have brought home some of their things from their time in Pearl Class. Their Learning Journey books will come home to you in the Autumn Term - so please don't worry, they are not lost, I simply need time to finish them by adding our July photographs. The photo they have brought home today was taken on the their first day at school and we have taken the second one today.

Should you need to contact Mrs Yuille regarding anything in school then you will now need to use the email ks1@downhallprimary.com. (I'm still happy to receive emails but might not be much use to you all anymore!) It would help the Key Stage 1 team if you add Year 1 to your subject heading as this will help identify your emails quicker as the account is shared with Mr Jude. Please note that the key stage 1 email will not be monitored from Thursday 21st July until Thursday 1st September 2022. You might also wish to spend some time looking at the Key Stage 1 area of the school website, to find their blog, the end of year expectations and projects that are covered. This can be found here

The children all return to school on Monday 5th September and I know they are going to be FABULOUS in Emerald.

So it remains for me to say a huge thank you for all your support this year. I have had a fabulous year with Pearl Class and have been honoured to share in the children's amazing learning journeys. They have made me SO proud every day that I got to be their first teacher.

Have a wonderful summer!

Love Miss Wakefield xx

18.07.22 - This coming week in Early Years

Hello everyone!

Well, we have made it to the final week and the last few days of the year and the penultimate blog of this academic year!

Hot Weather
The children can wear their PE kit every day next week, as we feel this might help them feel more comfortable during the day. We will also be making some capacity for children to spend some time inside at lunch times if they wish to avoid becoming too overheated. Please ensure that children come to school each day with a sun hat, a bottle of cool water and sun cream already applied.

To help us all cool down, the fabulous PTA will be selling ice creams after school on Wednesday!

Book Collection
All children have had their reading diaries and reading books collected in. These will be passed on to Mrs Yuille so that they are ready to be re-issued in September. I will be updating the children's Big Cat e-Book Libraries should they wish to use this over the summer break.

UNICEF Shoeshare Appeal
Just a reminder that on the last day of term we are collecting shoes in partnership with UNICEF and Clarks, who will cleverly turn our old shoes into money that will help fulfil the rights of children around the world. You can send your child with a spare pair of shoes on the final day of this term so they can place their unwanted school shoes into our collection box. If you have any other unwanted pairs, you can send these in too.

Our last collection total was 145 pairs of shoes - let's see if together we can smash this total!

On to our learning for this coming week, we will be:

  • Sharing the story "Milo's Monster" which the final book in the Tom Percival series we have been sharing. (Thankfully Tesco still had a copy as I promised the children I'd try to find the latest book!)
  • Thinking about our first year at Down Hall and looking through our Learning Journey books.
  • Taking some special photographs to round off our year in Pearl Class.
  • Playing some Phonics games as well as Phoneme Bingo.
  • Having fun with our friends!
I hope you have had a lovely weekend, see you in the morning!

Hello everyone!

I hope you have all enjoyed our Sports Day today, I was incredibly proud of all of Pearl Class for having a go and taking part.

The end of term  is rapidly approaching and I can't quite believe that next week is the last full week! Here is a run-down of what is left to happen this term.

Thursday 14th July        Open School evening 4-6pm

Wednesday 20th July    Last day of term

Open Evening
On Thursday 14th July from 4-6pm, parents and the wider community are invited to visit Down Hall for our Open Evening. This is an opportunity for you all to come in and see some of the work the children have done in school this year and look around their classroom. You can also visit other classes as well to see where your child will be working next year. We look forward to seeing you all!

This week the children have enjoyed a second visit to their new class, spending time yesterday afternoon with Mrs Yuille. They have a further visit this coming week too.

On to our learning for this week, we will be:

  • Sharing the story "One Year with Kipper" and thinking about our first year at school.
  • Updating our names on the classroom display for one last time!
  • Creating mazes in our Mathematics sessions and giving each other directions so that we know how to get out!
  • Thinking about our project and checking if we have answered all of the questions we asked at the start of the project.
  • Discussing the story "The Worrysaurus" in our Circle Time session.

UNICEF Shoeshare Appeal
Once again, on the last day of term, we are collecting shoes in partnership with UNICEF and Clarks, who will cleverly turn our old shoes into money that will help fulfil the rights of children around the world. You can send your child with a spare pair of shoes on the final day this term so that they can place their unwanted school shoes into our collection box. If you have any other unwanted pairs you can send these in too and if you want to get started early with a big shoe clear out, we will have a box ready to take them from Monday 11th July. Shoes must be in a wearable condition with no holes or broken soles and paired together with an elastic band. You can find our more about Shoeshare by clicking here

Hello everyone!

Well, another busy week has flown by, ending with the school disco - which was lots of fun! The children visited their new class on Thursday afternoon, spending time with Mrs Yuille. There are a further 2 visits planned, 1 this week and 1 next week.

Here is a rundown of the remaining events taking place this term:

Friday 15th July             Reports out
Wednesday 20th July    Last day of term

Sports Day
The children all brought home the letter regarding the arrangements for Sports Day on Thursday. Please return the slip tomorrow, if you have not already done so. It would also be great if the children could wear a coloured t-shirt to match their team, if you don't have one, please don't worry I will find them a coloured band to wear. The colours are:
Brooklyn        Deepdene        Hambro        Teignmouth
Any queries, please do ask.

Open School
This is an opportunity to into school, you will be able to go in any of the classrooms, including visiting the children's new class. It is not an "parent/teacher consultation" evening so no need to make an appointment, just come and have a look around!

Now on to our learning for the coming week, we will be:
  • Learning the last 2 Phase 4 tricky words in our Phonics sessions.
  • Finishing our flying superheroes from last week by adding the speech bubbles.
  • Thinking about real life superheroes and all the different ways that they can help us.
  • Making patterns in our Maths sessions, using numbers, objects and colours.
  • Sharing and discussing the story "Meesha Makes Friends" in our Circle Time session.
  • Creating flags ready for Sports Day on Friday!
  • Enjoying our Sports Day on Friday, racing to win points for our teams.

Unfortunately there will be no drop in this week as I have meetings every day after school this week.

As promised on last week's blog, here is one of the photos from our fabulous Times Table Rock Star Day!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend, see you tomorrow!
