28.03.22 - This coming week in Early Years

What a lovely sunny week we have had! We have been very busy in Pearl Class this week, making special cards ready for Sunday. The children loved going to the sale this afternoon and picking out their special gifts.

Drop In Session - Wednesday 30th March
After school this Wednesday, we are excited to announce that there will be a drop-in session between 3:15-4:00pm! This will be an opportunity for you all to come into class to see our lovely work and to look in their Writing and Learning Journey books. I will send all the children out to you as usual on this day and once all the children are with their adults, you can then come into Pearl Class. There will be enough time for you to visit more than one class if you have more than one child in school. I am very much looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday!

Fundraising For Ukraine - Friday 1st April
Just a reminder that on Friday 1st April, the children will be able to wear blue and yellow clothes (non-school uniform) to school to help raise money for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine - suggested donation of £1.
I will be discussing the situation in Ukraine in terms of how it is affecting children. I will be discussing how they are not getting their right to be safe from harm, the right to a home and the right to go to school.
will not be going into any detail of the specific events that are occurring in the war nor will we be watching any news reports regarding the situation in Ukraine in Early Years.
The children are very much used to looking at events and situations by relating these to our rights but if you have any concerns please just let us know beforehand.

Now on to our learning for next week, we will be:
  • Sharing non-fiction books about Polar animals.
  • Checking to see if we have answered all the questions we had about our project.
  • Creating some Easter cards and listening to the Easter story from the Bible.
  • Thinking about numbers in our Mathematics sessions, finding out just how big a million is!
  • Solving number problems to help the Easter Bunny find the eggs.
  • Seeing if we can beat our best scores for Tricky Word Trucks and Countdown in our Phonics sessions.
Have a lovely weekend!

21.03.22 - This coming week in Early Years

Hello everyone!
We had a lovely day on Friday wearing our noses in support of Red Nose Day. Pearl Class also took part in the "Make You Smile Dance Challenge" in the morning which was great fun. I hope you all enjoyed the tuck shop sale after school too. The total raised, through the sale of the noses and the tuck shop run by the PTA, will be in next week's newsletter. A big thank you to all of you for supporting this fundraising.

Fundraising For Ukraine - Friday 1st April
On Friday 1st April, the children will be able to wear blue and yellow clothes (non-school uniform) to school to help raise money for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine - suggested donation of £1.

We will be discussing the situation with the children in an age appropriate manner, very much focusing on the Rights of the Child and how the invasion has meant that children are not getting their right to be safe from harm, the right to a home and the right to go to school. The children are very much used to looking at events and situations by relating these to our rights but if you have any concerns please just let me know beforehand.

Now on to our learning for the coming week, we will be:
  • Sharing the story "Stuck", this is a very silly story about a little boy called Floyd and how his kite got stuck in a tree.
  • Continuing our writing of penguin facts which we started last week.
  • Learning our last Phase 3 tricky word in Phonics.
  • Learning about 3D shapes in our Mathematics sessions.
  • Listening to and discussing the story "It Wasn't Me" in our Circle Time session and thinking about how we would behave in that situation.
  • Creating some cards for special people in our families.
Don't forget next week there is the Mother's Day sale in school. Details about this sale are in this week's newsletter, which can be found here.

Have a lovely weekend

14.03.22 - This coming week in Early Years

Hello everyone,
It has been lovely to be back with Pearl Class and hear how super they have been whilst I was unwell. I have seen the super photos of them on World Book Day, they looked fabulous and Mrs Fincham said that it was lots of fun.

There are some important messages this week.

Red Nose Day
Next week we will have Red Noses on sale for the children to wear on Friday. These are £1.50 each. The PTA are also running a tuck shop sale after school on Friday with lovely cakes and sweets on sale. All monies raised are going to Comic Relief. Information regarding all of this can be found in this week's newsletter, which can be found here.

Fundraising for Ukraine
As a staff we are very aware of the continuing terrible situation and humanitarian crisis that is unfolding in Ukraine. A link to last week's newsletter which contains information and helpful websites that support discussing this issue with your child should you wish to do so or if they are asking questions can be found here.
We will be meeting as a staff next week to plan for a fundraising event in support of the DEC campaign to help the people of Ukraine. We were mindful, however, that this event did not get muddled in with an already planned charity event in support of Red Nose Day. We will send details of this separate fundraising event in due course.

Now on to our learning for next week, we will be:
  • Sharing the story "The Way Back Home", a fourth story about the Boy.
  • Thinking about how this week's book links to the story from last week.
  • Playing our new game "Countdown" in our Phonics sessions and learning another new tricky word.
  • Using non-fiction books to learn more about penguins.
  • Using our new found knowledge to help us write some of our own penguin facts.
  • Sharing the book "How Long is a Whale?" and using it to help us compare different sea animals by their length in our Mathematics sessions. We will also compare penguins by their height to find out which penguin is the tallest and which is the shortest.
Have a lovely weekend, see you on Monday!

07.03.22 - This coming week in Early Years

Hello everyone,

I have really missed Pearl Class this week, but know that they have been superstars for Mrs Fincham and Mrs Holmes. I was also so sad to miss their 100th day at school on Wednesday and seeing them all in their costumes yesterday. I know that Mrs Fincham has taken lots of photos so I will see them next week and I'm sure the children will tell me all about it! (I will add photos next week for everyone to see too).

This coming week we will be:
  • Sharing and discussing the story "How To Catch A Star". This was Oliver Jeffers' first book and also the first story about the Boy.
  • Creating our own song and musical accompaniment for the stories, adding sound effects. (This is carried over from last week, when I was off school).
  • Learning the next tricky word in our Phonics sessions, there will then only be 2 left to learn.
  • Continuing the phase "Building 9 & 10" in our Mathematics sessions, counting backwards from 10 and finding different ways to make 10 using our 10 frames.
  • Learning about 5 new Vocabulary Ninja words.
  • Starting to look at non-fiction books to learn about penguins.
  • Painting our own moose, thinking about the way Oliver Jeffers drew them in his book "This Moose Belongs To Me".
I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Take care
Miss Wakefield
