Happy Half Term!

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your support for the Red, White and Blue Day, the children all looked fabulous in the photos. I have posted one of them below for you all to see.
The children would have brought home their letters for our next project "Superheroes" last week. If you aren't able to find them, there is also a copy on our Early Years pages of the school website. I would be very grateful if the children could bring them in during the first week back, as I do use them to help plan the learning for our project.

I will blog again on Sunday to let you know what we will be doing in Pearl Class during our first week back. In the meantime, I hope that you all have a fabulous half term and enjoy the Jubilee celebrations, I look forward to hearing all about them when we come back. See you all on Tuesday 7th June!

23.05.22 - This coming week in Early Years

Hello everyone!

It was SO lovely to see so many of you in class on Friday for our drop in. I hope you enjoyed our little Coronation film. I was so proud of Pearl Class, who took it all in their stride, performing in front of the whole school for the first time. I will, over half term, add the photos to our Early Years part of the website.

You may have also seen in the newsletter this week that there are a number of new dates for your diaries. A particular one to note is Sports Day on Friday 8th July. T
his will be in the morning for KS2 and in the afternoon for Early Years. All parents will be able to come and watch this year and there will be a picnic lunch which you can attend as well. There will be further details to follow, but I wanted to be sure that you were all aware of this date.

On to our learning for the coming week, we will be:

  • Watching and talking about the Aesop Fable "The Grasshopper and the Ants".
  • Discussing the characters from this week's story in our Circle Time session and thinking about how kind the ants were to the grasshopper.
  • Searching for minibeast in our garden and on the field, recording those we find.
  • Learning 2 more Phase 4 tricky words in our Phonics sessions.
  • Working on shape in our Mathematics sessions, learning how new shapes can be made by putting 2 shapes together.
  • Thinking about the questions we wanted to know about minibeasts and checking that we have found all the answers.
  • Wearing Red, White and Blue on Friday and enjoying a Jubilee picnic together. (Suggested donation of £1 for the non-uniform day, please remember Pearl Class will still have PE that day so need to be wearing something suitable for it).
There is no drop in this week as I am in the Isle of Wight on the Year 6 Residential. Pearl Class will be having Mrs Holmes all week. Please continue to use earlyyears@downhallprimary.com for any WOWs etc as Mrs Holmes will have access to the account.

On Friday, the children will be bring home their letters for our next project "Superheroes". I look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 7th June. Have a lovely half term!

16.05.22 - This week in Early Years

Hello everyone!
Happy Friday! Firstly, thank you for your understanding about me cancelling yesterday's drop in session at such short notice. We will be having a special drop in session next week on FRIDAY with, fingers crossed, a slide show of our "event" that morning, but more of that later.

We've had another busy week, full of minibeasts! We've enjoyed learning about lots of different minibeasts this week, rather than focussing on just one. The children have also worked hard this week to update our name display in class, showing how they are making improvements in their writing.

On to our learning for this coming week, we will be:

  • Learning 2 new words in our Phonics session and trying to read some more 4 phoneme words.
  • Continuing with learning to write lower case letters in our Start-Bee sessions.
  • Continuing with some addition work in Mathematics before using the First, Then and Now boxes to help us with some subtraction.
  • Continuing to learn the National Anthem, in preparation for Friday.
  • Creating our own crowns to wear to the Coronation.
  • Writing special invitations to the whole school, inviting them to our Coronation on Friday morning!
As I am in the Isle of Wight for the last week of term, I am bringing forward our work to commemorate the Queen's jubilee. You may have heard me mention at home time about the children's important homework for this weekend, hopefully the children have remembered it, they need to practise their bows and curtseys ready for Friday!

Have a lovely weekend

09.05.22 - This week in Early Years

We have had a very spidery week this week! We've carefully followed instructions to make our own spiders and made some fridge magnet spiders too.

On to our learning for the coming week, we will be:
  • Sharing the book "Mad About Minibeasts!" which is full of rhymes about different minibeasts.
  • Learning some facts about some of those minibeasts like snails, slugs and bees.
  • Creating our own snail collage, printing the shell and cutting out the bodies and comparing our masterpieces to "The Snail" by Henri Matisse
  • Starting to write the lowercase letters in our Start-Bee handwriting sessions.
  • Working on addition in our Mathematics sessions.
This week the drop in session will be on THURSDAY. Please remember there is no expectation for you to attend each week.
Have a lovely sunny weekend!
